xweiss
xweiss realizes immersive research productions at the interface of theater, performance, dance and installation - often political, often multi-layered, never easy to grasp. We have developed a flexible design system and a digital platform for xweiss that gives form to this openness: clearly structured, technically precise and creatively permeable - for productions that differ conceptually, formally and thematically from one another, but take place in the same space.
»X is more than a sign - it is a stage, a visual axis and a blank space at the same time. A place for the definite in the indefinite.«
Atelier Disko
Visual identity
The central element of the design is the striking "X" with a characteristic gap - a sign that can be a stage, visual axis and thinking space at the same time. It stands for emptiness, possibility and necessity: a place for the concrete, not the arbitrary. This formal idea refers to the attitude of xweiss - political, exploratory, sensitive in dealing with material, context and history.
The visual appearance is complemented by flowing color gradient video loops, which are used as a consistent design element in digital applications. They visualize movement, change and permeability - and at the same time pick up on the conceptual play with the idea of "white" as a coloured space: White is never neutral, always nuanced.
Typography, layout and motion design follow a precise, decelerated rhythm and thus create an aesthetic bracket for very different content formats - from classical theater to audio walks that take place several times a day.
»The website for xweiss is not an interface, but a stage. It structures without standardizing and creates space for works that defy fixed forms.«
Atelier Disko

Technical implementation & structure
The website is based on a headless CMS that is specially tailored to the complex requirements of xweiss. In contrast to standardized systems, we were able to implement an individual data model that also maps irregular seasons, multiple daily productions, cross-sector formats and variable content.
At its heart is a flexible performance schedule that not only brings together current dates but also past works in an editable archive. The xweiss editorial team, production team and artists can update all content independently - including detailed production descriptions, ticket links, performance times and location-specific information.
»Between gap and structure: the visual system for xweiss is like her work itself - open, precise and always in motion.«
Atelier Disko

The project is an example of the close integration of conceptual design, technical implementation and editorial structure. Visual identity, information architecture and CMS logic interlock to create a system that not only works, but also shows attitude.
The website does not see itself as a rigid archive, but as an expandable space for productions that are constantly redefining themselves - in dialog with society, history and their own medium.
